About

What is Environmental Wellness?

Environmental wellness encourages us to live in harmony with the Earth by taking action to protect it. Environmental well-being promotes interaction with nature and your personal environment. You can have a strong environmental conscience simply by raising your awareness of what is around you. A clean, safe, comfortable place helps you feel good, whether you are in your home or out in the community.

Activities

There are many things you can do to develop your environmental wellness. Try some of the activities below:

  • Go for a walk. You can take a walk alone or with a friend. Look around and get your daily dose of vitamin D.
  • Tidy your space. Remove clutter by organizing one closet/drawer in your home. Organizing your space will make it a more pleasant environment.
  • Grow/buy a plant. Plants liven up your space and can improve the air.
  • Car pool. Coordinate with your classmates or coworkers. If you have similar schedules, you could commute together and reduce your environmental impact.
  • Recycle and compost. Reduce the amount of waste you are adding to landfills. You can encourage others to recycle as well.
  • Avoid buying new things when you can. Check out vintage/used clothes and consignment shops. Use reusable water bottles.
  • Switch to natural cleaning products. For example, white vinegar can be a good natural, non-toxic cleaning product that kills bacteria.
  • Eat something made with locally-sourced ingredients. You aren’t the only one who commutes; your food does too. Try looking for food that didn’t have far to go.

What’s Your Footprint?

Everything we do, from what we eat to how we get around, impacts the planet. The effect that we each have on the environment is called our Ecological Footprint. If everyone lived like you, by what date in the year would we use the amount of resources that the earth can renew each year?
