About The Learning Portal / Le Portail d'Apprentissage


The Learning Portal- opens in a new window is College Libraries Ontario’s (CLO) flagship collaborative service designed to provide 24/7 virtual access to a wide variety of open learning resources, tools, and learning supports, available in both English and French, and accessible to all Ontario college students and faculty.

Our mandate is to maintain The Learning Portal, including continuous review, updating and assessment of the contents of The Learning Portal and to also gather new academic supports and content in partnership with the Ontario Colleges.

The Learning Portal is governed by an advisory committee with membership from various Ontario College libraries and learning centres. The Portal reports to College Libraries Ontario- opens in a new window and supports their mission of providing academic support resources which promote student success, retention & graduation rates and improve student access to open learning resources by providing equitable access to library resources and learning supports.

Accessibility

The Learning Portal is committed to the principles of open education, adhering to accessibility standards and the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are dedicated to continuously enhancing the accessibility of our platform through ongoing efforts and improvements, ensuring it remains updated and compliant with the latest best practices and regulations.

The Learning Portal follows Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

On August 31, 2017, this content was tested using the following user agents and assistive technologies: Firefox 1.5 on Windows Vista with Screenreader X 4.0, Firefox 1.5 on Windows XP SP 2 with Screenreader X 3.5, IE 6.0 on Windows 2000 SP4 with Screenreader Y 5.0, IE 6.0 on Windows 2000 SP4 with Screenreader Z 2.0, and Firefox 1.5 on Windows XP SP2 with Screenreader X 4.0, Safari 2.0 with OS X 10.4.

EDI and TRC Commitments

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

An equity, diversity and inclusion lens is applied to the content and design of The Learning Portal. As content is updated efforts are made to improve the diversity in images and activities, and to ensure diverse and underrepresented voices are shown.

Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC)

The Learning Portal and the Maamwi Hub in particular are committed to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action- Opens in a new window and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples- Opens in a new window (UNDRIP).

The Learning Portal is supporting the following Calls to Action:

  • Calls to Action 10 (iii) – Developing culturally appropriate curricula
  • Calls to Action 10 (vii) – Respecting and honouring Treaty relationships
  • Calls to Action 63 (iii) – Build student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect.

Credits

The Learning Portal / Le Portail d’Apprentissage is a collaboration between the College Libraries Ontario (CLO), several Ontario college learning centres, and the Ontario College Library Service (OCLS).

The resources found on this site were developed across the province by many library and learning centre staff and faculty. Please see individual resources for specific credits.

Terms and Conditions for Collaboration

The Learning Portal is committed to making efforts to ensure equitable and transparent membership of the advisory committee and inclusion of collaborators involved in the development of and content creation on the Learning Portal. This can include review of committee membership and collaborators on the Learning Portal to ensure they include representation of different lived experiences, skills in specific areas, education level/training, perspectives and expertise with a focus on making efforts to include members of historically, persistently or systematically marginalized groups.
